It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the Fork Lane School webpage. As we prepare for this school year, my primary hope is that you, your children, and your loved ones are safe and healthy. We are working diligently to prepare our school for our September opening and are committed to providing high quality learning experiences for your child.
At Fork Lane, we value academic and social growth and provide rich educational experiences. Our K-5 school serves the needs of over 275 students. We follow a standards-based curriculum which includes the implementation of Reading Street, Into Math, OHM Science (Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES), PNW Social Studies (Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES), and the Teachers College Writers Workshop. Technology is integrated into the curriculum with students having access to iPads (K-2) and Chrome books (3-5) and teachers use a variety of programs and apps to support learning including Google Classroom and Seesaw.
Educating the whole child is important to us. We use the Olweus program to support social-emotional learning with an emphasis on improving peer relationships and making the school a positive place for students to learn and grow. Class meetings are a core part of this program and help to improve communication, to understand and respect the differences among us and promote acceptance. I am looking forward to building on the strong foundation which began last year and continuing this important work.
Fork Lane values our home-school partnerships and I plan to continue this tradition. Our school community is fortunate to have dedicated faculty, staff, and families, as well as the support of a strong PTA who works tirelessly to bring special programs and experiences to our students.
This year I will be encouraging a growth mindset and activating the power of yet. Each day we are doing things we’ve never done before. With perseverance and effort, we have great potential. Working together, we can to learn from our experiences and grow through these challenges. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 516-733-2341.
With appreciation,
Susan Guiliano
Principal
