Hicksville Middle School celebrated the unveiling of its new PS I Love You Bench on February 13, coinciding with the school’s observance of P.S. I Love You Day. The bench serves as a meaningful addition to the school community, fostering kindness, inclusion, and support for all students.

Students at Lee Avenue recently enjoyed a special visit from Liya, a therapy dog from Therapy Dogs of Long Island. Dog owner Aimee Pontrelli brought the four-year-old beagle mix dog to the school to spent time interacting with students to promote relaxation, emotional well-being, and positive social connections.

East Street Elementary School in Hicksville is celebrating a wonderful literary achievement of two talented fourth grade students, Kora Kowalski and Maya Pestano. The two have recently been recognized as Young Writers and published in the anthology Spook Squad: Into The Shadows, part of the Young Writers Spook Squad series.

At the February 11 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton acknowledged eight outstanding students for their recent accomplishments in school and out.

In celebration of the 2026 Winter Olympics, students at Burns Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville held a school-wide Olympic opening ceremony on Feb. 5 in the school’s gymnasium. Students proudly raised flags made in class representing countries from around the globe.

Students at Dutch Lane Elementary School in Hicksville enjoyed an unforgettable visit on Feb. 9 as they welcomed author Justin Colón, creator of The Quacken. The book is a humorous, lightly spooky picture story about a young boy who unknowingly unleashes a ferociously fuzzy creature at his campground.

Hicksville Middle School students welcomed the Year of the Horse with a hands-on project, creating festive arts and crafts to mark the Lunar New Year. Observed across many East and Southeast Asian communities, this meaningful holiday is one of the most significant celebrations of the year. The activity highlighted the vibrant cultural traditions represented within the school and encouraged appreciation for the diverse backgrounds that make up the Hicksville Middle School community.

Students at Lee Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville experienced a fun morning of excitement, teamwork, and friendly competition during a special school assembly featuring The Ultimate Human Board Game, an interactive program designed to engage, motivate, and inspire.

First graders at Lee Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville recently welcomed a representative from the Long Island Children’s Museum for an engaging lesson on Chinese Lunar New Year traditions. Through the museum’s Lucky Fortune program, students explored festive customs and learned about the symbolism of the Lion Dance and capped off the afternoon by creating their own Lion Dance parade masks.

Old Country Road students in Hicksville were recently treated to a fun educational experience recently with the Supermarket Science assembly, a high-energy STEM show that blended science, humor, and hands-on learning into one thrilling performance. The assembly captivated students with stunts, hilarious antics, and a touch of magic, keeping them fully engaged from start to finish. Through experiments using everyday grocery store items, students explored the importance of observation, testing, and inquiry, essential tools for scientific discovery. The show left a lasting impression, turning ordinary pantry staples into sources of scientific wonder.

Celebrating the spirit of the Super Bowl, students at Old Country Road Elementary in Hicksville are making a difference by collecting toiletries for local individuals in need as part of the student council’s Touchdown for Toiletries effort.

Each week, fifth grade students at Lee Avenue Elementary in Hicksville are excited to report current news, sports and weather with their peers as part of the school’s news team also known as the Lee Ave News 1 Team. In addition to keeping the school community informed, the program is allowing to students to build valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and media literacy.

Hicksville Middle School’s Fourth Annual Indoor Snowball Fight recently brought together nearly 200 students from all grade levels for a fun, free after-school event.

At the January 21 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton acknowledged twelve outstanding students who have been recently recognized at the regional, state and national levels for their accomplishments in the arts, literature and academics.

At the December 17 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton recognized several outstanding achievements by an educator and students, highlighting the district’s continued commitment to excellence in music, visual arts, and athletics.

Students at Hicksville Middle School celebrated the success of their Holiday Food Drive with a memorable event that highlighted their efforts. From Dec. 10-19, the middle school community came together to collect food donations for those in need, ultimately gathering more than 500 boxes of food.

Hicksville High School’s Helping Hands Club volunteered at The Children’s Center annual Breakfast with Santa event that took place on Dec. 13. The Children’s Center located in Commack is part of The United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island.

In a creative and modern twist, fifth graders at Burns Avenue Elementary in Hicksville welcomed family members and special guests to their annual Author’s Celebration, showcasing their original writing through a digital format.

Third and fourth graders at Lee Avenue Elementary in Hicksville recently had a special assembly with Nick the “Balloonatic.” During his visit, Nick amazed students with his creative balloon designs, playful humor, and high energy performance. The room was filled with laughter as he transformed simple balloons into incredible shapes and characters, all while sharing messages about creativity and having fun.

Hicksville Middle School students have brought ancient and modern literature classics to life through an exhibition currently on display in the school’s library entitled Journey Through Epic Tales.

Hicksville High School’s Repertory Company recently lit up the Charles “Chuck” Arnold Theatre with three performances of Play On! by Rick Abbot on Nov. 21 and 22.

At the November 19 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton recognized the following students for their outstanding accomplishments to the Hicksville school community.

Hicksville Public Schools has announced the appointment of Michael Marando as the new assistant principal of Hicksville High School.

On Oct. 22, Hicksville Middle School hosted a special breakfast for new entrants into the district. Principal Benjamin Tangney welcomed the students to the cafeteria and highlighted some of the unique opportunities in the building. The experience gave students the chance to connect with other new students while realizing there are many other new faces in the building. Members of the school’s support staff were also on hand to help answer any questions and make a face-to-face connect with the new students.

At the October 22 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton recognized members of the Board of Education for their continued dedication and commitment to the district and community in honor of Board of Education Recognition Week.

The Hicksville High School Helping Hands Club recently donated $300 to the Hicksville Food Pantry. The funds were raised through several student led initiatives, including the sale of club apparel and after-school churro sales. Hicksville Public Schools is proud to announce Kerri Kamping has been named the recipient of the 2025 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Early Career Achievement Award.

The back field of Hicksville High School felt like a community gathering place on Oct. 4, as students of all ages, along with teachers, administrators, Board of Education members, parents and alumni, came out for the annual homecoming celebration.

Hicksville Middle School, together with the wider school community, has united in support of the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, setting a fundraising goal of $1,000 to benefit the organization.

The Hicksville Public Schools community celebrated the exceptional talent and dedication of its student musicians at the September 18 Board of Education meeting. Several students were recognized for their selection to the highly competitive NYSSMA All-State festival, with three chosen to perform at the annual Winter Conference in Rochester this December

The Hicksville Public School District is proud to announce the appointment of Kirsten Watts as the Assistant Director for Special Education, effective July 18, 2025. Ms. Watts brings a deep commitment to inclusive education and a strong track record of supporting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development of students with disabilities.

On July 2, the Hicksville Public School District Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting. During the meeting, the Board voted to reappoint Annette Beiner to serve as President for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board also elected Linda Imbriale to serve as Vice President and Erin Guida to serve as Secretary for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Hicksville Public Schools Board of Education appointed two new elementary school principals at their business meeting on June 11.
